Blessed Garlic Event Day

Come enjoy garlic plating event on our permaculture farm. We will go through soil preparation, soil amendments, spacing and mulching and the kids will get to actually do it. We will also perform farm activities and will visit all the animals around the farm.

Children will:

• Experience the process of soil preparation
• Learn weeding, adding organic compost, organic matter
• Importance of adding micro-nutrients such as Rock-dust and Basalt
• Spacing, making holes and plating garlic
• Different types of garlic and their life cycle
• Ways to preserve garlic (drying, braiding and pickling)
• Offer garlic treats to animals and understand why livestock should be given garlic at the end of the season
• Will roast garlic on bonfire and enjoy with a meal made together

Day Schedule:

11-12pm: Animal care visits and offering garlic to the livestock

12-1pm: Garlic bed prepping, adding amendments, leveling

1-2pm: Marking beds, planting garlic cloves and mulching

2-3pm: Roasting garlic and prepping meal and enjoying together near bonfire

3-4pm: Performing animal farm chores together

Give your child the valuable experience garlic planting this fall! Children will be invited back in the spring to see how their planted garlic cloves grow and will be able to cut garlic scapes from their planting.
